Samantha Steele: Yep, I'm Marrying Christian Ponder

ESPN personality Samantha Steele has confirmed that she is getting married to Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder, whom she has been dating for at least the last few months. Here she is in her pre-ESPN days interviewing another quarterback, Robert Griffin III.

Looks like football is about to be Christian Ponder’s wife.

Just six weeks ago, we reported that the second-year Minnesota Vikings quarterback was dating the ESPN personality. He confirmed as much on Twitter.

And now, she has confirmed on Twitter (by way of Sports Illustrated’s Richard Deitsch) that she will indeed be walking down the aisle with Ponder at some point.

Word of the engagement was first broken late Monday night on Twitter by Birmingham-based sports director Rick Karle, according to The Big Lead.

The marriage plans for Ponder are a far cry from the start of the football season, when he said he had “nothing going on” in the relationship department, and that “football is my girlfriend.”

As it turns out, that was code for Steele, who started as a reporter for ESPN’s “College GameDay” this season, one that ended just this past weekend.

I guess somebody must have known something about Steele’s impending nuptials: she’s already listed on the website AthletesWives.com.

For the record: since the Vikings’ bye week, during which time Ponder accompanied his fiancee across the country for her ESPN duties, the Vikings are 0-2, and in those two games (which were also on the road, as well), Ponder had more fumbles and interceptions than he did touchdowns.

Which leads to the popular joke on Twitter since news of the engagement was made public: The wedding of Samantha Steele and Christian Ponder will be the first one without a reception.

Though, I’m sure there might be a sack or two later on.

No wedding date has been set, by the way.

UPDATE: They were married on Monday, December 17, 2012. That was quick!
