A combination of irony and jealously helped in bringing an end to the life of a hunting enthusiast who appeared on The Sportsman Channel.
Gregory Rodriguez, founder of Global Adventure Outfitters, was also the host of a show titled “A Rifleman’s Journal.” He was traveling in Montana to meet up with a woman who works at a firearms manufacturer, possibly to talk business.
But once the woman’s husband, Wayne Bengston, saw the two conversing at her mother’s house over a round of wine, he responded by immediately shooting Rodriguez, 43, to death. His unidentified wife was then beaten repeatedly about the face, but her life was spared. Bengston then grabbed their toddler son and left him at a friend’s house – and that would be the last time Bengston would see his son, or anyone else, as he then made his way back to his house and shot himself in the head, and later died.
“I think it was a jealous husband, but this is all conjecture,” commented Whitefish, MT Police Chief Bill Dial, who deemed this an “open-and-closed case” of “homicide and suicide.”
The Sportsman Channel is available on some cable systems, including Verizon FiOS channel 308. Among their featured programming is a show hosted by musician Ted Nugent. Interestingly, “A Rifleman’s Journal” is currently not among the shows listed on the channel’s website, though the show’s item remains on its server.
